While Epic Games is working on a new MOBA and Gear‘s creator, Cliff Bleszinski, is working on his own new shooter, Microsoft and newly-founded first-party studio, The Coalition, are gearing up for the launch of the highly anticipated Xbox One exclusive, Gears of War 4.
To create hype for the October launch (and hopefully test the servers and balance gameplay mechanics), the team behind Gears 4 is having an open multiplayer beta from April 25 – May 1 for Xbox Live Gold members. And to create even more hype, the team has just released a trailer teasing all of the games new features.
Fans are sure to be split on the gory game’s glorious current-gen comeback that looks awfully familiar to the last game in the series on Xbox 360. This being the first Gears game from a new studio seems to have resulted in the developers playing it safe to keep fans of the chainsawing series happy… but with the series starting to show its age and the Xbox One struggling in the console war, it’s going to be interesting to see if new characters, modes, maps, weapons, and executions will be enough to keep the series relevant with so many new shooters hitting the market over the course of the next year.
Gears of War 4 is set for release on October 16, 2016 on Xbox One.
