While most people were concerned with which FPS was going to reign supreme this year in the battle between Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, fans of role-playing games were treated to revolutionary new installments of old franchises. There were a lot of amazing RPGs this year, but our final decision for us came down to the singleplayer Elder Scroll V: Skyrim vs. the massive multiplayer Star Wars: The Old Republic. While both games offered an amazingly unique RPG experience, said experience varied greatly due to Skyrim‘s more open world experience and The Old Republic‘s massive multiplayer online aspect. While we loved Skyrim‘s go-where-you-want when-you-want theme, its bugs and glitches kept it from being a masterpiece while The Old Republic‘s MMO aspect that introduced a whole new way to create an online identity in a world occupied by thousands of others that will only grow with time was enough to edge out Skryim and be our favorite RPG this year. Winner: Star Wars: The Old Republic.
