With none of Marvel’s Avengers assembling at San Diego Comic-Con this year, DC stepped up and took center stage with their own civil war. Director Zack Synder and the rest of the cast returned to Comic-Con for the third year in a row to tease Batman v Superman, but this time they brought the big guns with a real trailer that clocks in at almost 4 full minutes of fight hype.
In the second trailer just revealed at SDCC, we get a good look at a darker Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), who believes Superman must be stopped after the events in Man of Steel lead to the destruction of Gotham and his own Wayne Enterprises skyscraper. With the current trend of superhero movies ending in the careless destruction of highly-populated cities, using this as a major plot device is sure to please fans.
The second look also teases Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Gal Gadot fighting as Wonder Woman, and even how General Zod and Kryptonite might be handled in the sequel. And of course, we also get a sneak peak at some of the showdown between Batman and Superman. But many questions still remain… Can Affleck, Gadot, and Eisenberg pull this off? Could Synder still be relying a bit too heavily on CGI after Nolan’s anti-CGI masterpiece? And holy shit, did Batman just kill a guy in the desert?! One thing’s for sure: Batman’s new Frank Miller-inspired suits look bad-ass.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit theaters on March 25, 2016.
