Say Goodbye To Late Fees, and Blockbuster

November 6, 2013 by

Ah, Blockbuster, hate to see you go but love to watch you leave. As those old enough to remember can probably relate, the 90s and early 2000s were a time that Blockbuster helped get everyone by on slow Friday and Saturday nights with a trip on down to the good ‘ol video store to rent a new movie and/or video game. Good times indeed.

Of course, with the good comes the bad, and most also probably remember being let down when finding that the movie or game they wanted was out of stock. Or even worse, memories of when those Friday and Saturday two night rentals were returned late, allowing Blockbuster to exploit customers out of large sums of cash far exceeding the price of just buying the stupid movie.

So for those who remember the good times, what do you care? You probably don’t even go to Blockbuster anymore. And for those who still hold a grudge, then today you can celebrate because DISH Network, which purchased Blockbuster back in 2011, has officially announced that it will be closing the chain’s 300 remaining retail stores in the States and ceasing its DVD mail service.

Yep, in just a few months Blockbuster’s brick & mortar stores will be no more. While DISH still plans to use the Blockbuster @Home brand for their steaming service and support the few remaining franchises left, it’s safe to say that Blockbuster is dead, or at least will be come this January.
