Saints Row 3 Trailer: Words Cannot Express the Awesomeness

Posted by on June 2, 2011

Grand Theft what? The latest trailer released for THQ’s upcoming third installment in their open world series Saints Row has just been released, and it might be one of the best video game trailers of all time.

While Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s trailer from last year’s E3 stole the show, the latest trailer for Saints Row 3 might have stolen the show before E3 has even begun, if it weren’t for the trailer being all pre-rendered footage. Nevertheless, the trailer looks better than any trailer for a blockbuster movie coming out this summer, and is a far better use of the song “Power” than The Social Network‘s trailer. Check out the HD version below (switch to 720p on the bottom right of the YouTube player) and get ready for Saints Row 3 on November 15th. Here’s an official synopsis from THQ:

Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you. The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute. Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to a new city, playing out the most outlandish gameplay scenarios ever seen. Strap it on.

Better than the Limitless trailer’s use of “Power” as well, but i must be missing something, Paul, cuz this didn’t get me nearly as wet as the trailers for Dead Island, Battlefield 3, or Modern Warfare 3. You must be having a great day haha! And wassup with the planes at the end? Do I need to play the first 2 Saints Row or something?

Eh, Dead Island was really good, but it was basically just slow-motion reverse zombies attacking a family. Modern Warfare and Battlefield were good, but seemed like the same old trailers that you would see for a Modern Warfare 2 or Battlefield 4. The way this trailer plays and tells a story without using a single word (like Dead Island) is just perfect. From the way that it almost seamlessly transitions as one continuous shot to the over-the-top amazing action to how perfect the song fits, it doesn’t get much better imo. Plus, the characters in the Dead Island trailer aren’t even in the game, I’m sure all the people in this trailer will play big roles in SR3 and the trailer has left me wondering who they all are.
