Nintendo Announces Fortnite: Battle Royale on Switch at E3 2018

But Crossplay and Accounts Are Sadly Being Blocked by Sony

June 18, 2018 by

With Epic’s Fortnite on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and even mobile devices, it seems like a no-brainer that the game would be a perfect fit on Nintendo’s portable hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch.

And at this year’s E3, Nintendo made the huge announcement that Fortnite: Battle Royale isn’t just coming to the Switch, but that it’s available right now to download and play for free.

While Epic and Nintendo’s announcement was good news for all gamers, oddly, it was news from Epic that Sony will be blocking cross-platform play AND downloadable content from being shared between accounts that have been used on the PlayStation 4.

As the top console manufacturer on the market, Sony doesn’t seem to be budging on the issue, despite huge backlash from gamers. And if the world’s most popular game, Fortnite, isn’t enough to make Sony play nice, the future doesn’t look bright for crossplay of any game with PlayStation.

For now, we’re just going to go back to watching Fornite‘s Nintendo Switch reveal trailer and feel happy with our heads in the clouds… as opposed to Sony who seems to just want to bury their heads in the sand on this one.
