Hands-On The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan at E3 2019

We Check Out the Latest Scary Choose Your Own Adventure from Supermassive Games

June 24, 2019 by

As big fans of horror films, survival-horror games, and choose your own adventures, Supermassive’s previous PlayStation 4 exclusive, Until Dawn, was an enjoyable experience for us that near-perfectly blended all three forms of media into one.

Now, the team of developers are back with the first installment in their new horror anthology series, The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan.

Like their last horror game, Man of Medan once again puts a group of young adults in a spooky situation and allows the player the freedom to make choices that will determine the fates of each character.

One of the best parts of Until Dawn was when the game forced you to make split-second choices in the heat of the moment — which at times, lead to the gruesome permanent deaths of the story’s main characters and multiple alternate endings.

With character development being the primary focus and key to the player’s decision-making, the facial animations in Man of Medan look ultra-realistic and stars such as Shawn Ashmore (X-Men / Quantum Break) look almost exactly like they do in real life.

Although no characters died in our 20-minutes of hands-on time with the game, there were plenty of nail-biting moments that teased their potential demise at any time and the developers have already confirmed they’ve spent plenty of time figuring out the best way to kill each character off.

We can’t wait to find out who will make it to end in our own playthrough of The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan when it releases later this summer for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on August 30, 2019.
