I don’t remember Gears of War 1 or 2 having a campaign trailer, but I’ll always remember the epic “Mad World” trailer for the first Gears — it was easily all I needed to see to convince me to buy an Xbox 360 just for Gears back in 2006. Gears 2 had the “Last Day” trailer which was on par with “Mad World” and Gears 3 was announced with the “Ashes to Ashes” trailer, that in my opinion raised the bar by being the darkest of the three by far.
Seems like Epic and Microsoft are trying to promote the third and final game in the series with a little more action. The latest trailer features Black Sabbath’s iconic ‘War Pigs” song and showcases a lot of action and actual scenes you can expect to see in Gears 3. The campaign trailer also gives a first look at Marcus Fenix’s father, Adam Fenix, after the cliffhanger audio clip that was teased after the credits of Gears or War 2. Personally, I think the trailer looks great, but it lacks that eerie feel that the previous three have all nailed. The “War Pigs” trailer reminds me a lot more of Epic Games’ Bulletstorm trailer than the last three Gears‘ trailers. Nevertheless, it’s still a bad-ass trailer which makes Gears 3 look like it will be the best so far in the series.
