Bungie Finally Shows Their Latest at Sony's E3 2013 Press Conference

June 12, 2013 by

The next big thing in the gaming industry is without question the merging of two of the most popular genres of games, shooters and MMOs. While we’ve already seen games like Defiance attempt the idea, nobody has perfected it yet… However, if any development studio is going to finally make an amazing open-world MMOFPS on consoles, what better studio than Bungie, the same studio behind the creation of Halo?

Leaving the Halo series behind in the hands of 343, Bungie has been hard at work developing one of the most ambitious gaming projects ever, Destiny. Revealed in a teaser a few weeks ago, the name pretty much sums it up as Destiny is where the gaming industry seems to be heading and looks like what we can except much more of in the coming years.

While Destiny will be on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, it has been Sony who has seen the true potential of the game and has been pushing the title harder as if it were one of their own exclusives. At this year’s E3, Sony ended their press conference with a first look at the game, and quite frankly, it looks amazing. We got to see the same demo played at Activision’s private theater at E3 and can say it looks even better up close and in person.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, Destiny will basically be the love child of Halo and popular open world massive multiplayer games like World of Warcraft. While the game isn’t linked to Halo in any way, the similarities are overly obvious as Bungie has used a very similar art direction, but they’ve been able to make the game look far better than any previous Halo game by injecting much more color. In Destiny, players can form groups and work together killing enemies in an open world environment that allows constant progression through leveling up and gaining access to new weapons and abilities.

Activision and Bungie haven’t gone over all of the details, so there’s still a lot of unknowns about this massive new IP. But from what we’ve seen, we’re putting our money on Destiny living up to its name and becoming the next big thing that surpasses Halo and maybe even Call of Duty, too. Check out the first look at the gameplay from Sony’s press conference.
