World War Z Trailer

Brad Pitt Plays Zombie Katamari

November 9, 2012 by

The story of World War Z‘s production seems to just be getting worse and worse. Since securing the film rights in 2007, Paramount and Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment have been dealing with release date delays, reshoots, rewrites, arguments between director Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) and Pitt, and now with the trailer finally here, there looks like there will be even more controversy over changes from Max Brooksโ€™ original book.

Besides the name and the plot involving zombies, the upcoming film adaption looks to have little in common with Brooks’ best-selling novel, which is sure to upset most fans when watching this trailer. Those who are familiar with the novel can see that the interview approach has been discarded and replaced with Pitt playing the role of family man in what looks more like a War of the Worlds and I Am Legend mash-up than a true book-to-film adaptation.

Those who haven’t read the books might be intrigued by the first minute of the trailer and the concept of zombies with no care for their own well-being like packs of wild animals carelessly chasing after their prey. But after seeing the weaker Katamari-like CGI effects, it’s hard to get too excited for the film, especially when knowing how many problems it’s had and that David Lindelof (who many blame for ruining Prometheus) is the writer they brought in to re-write the third act.

World War Z remains scheduled to hit theaters on June 21st, 2013, sans any further delays due to problems with production or real zombie apocalypses.
