Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Revealed

Sidekicks, Mysticals, Grappling Hooks, and More!

October 27, 2015 by

Since its reveal sixteen months ago, there have only been three Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End teasers… and with the game now set for launch in five months, we were wondering if Naughty Dog was going to keep multiplayer under wraps until launch — we’ve seen them do it before with The Last of Us. Thankfully, on Halo 5‘s own launch day of all days, Sony threw down the gauntlet this morning at Paris Games Week and gave us a first look at Uncharted 4‘s multiplayer… and it looks wild!

Those who were hoping for a recreation of the multiplayer masterpiece that was Uncharted 2 might be a little disappointed to find that the forth installment in the series will be including new Mystical abilities and supernatural powers. But with Mysticals being recognizable objects taken from previous games, fans of the series should certainly appreciate the direction Naughty Dog is trying to take the online experience with lore mixed into the action.

The trailer also shows off how characters can now slide around and swing through maps using the same game-changing grappling hook featured in the singleplayer epic teasers. What’s not really clear from the first look is how the new Sidekicks system will work. For the first time in the series, players will be able to call in help from a friendly A.I. character and also be downed but not out in similar fashion to The Last of Us‘ revive system.

With all the amazing new content and upgrades teased also comes a bit of bad news. Uncharted 4‘s online multiplayer will only be running at 900p on the PlayStation 4. The good news, however, is that Naughty Dog has sacrificed pixels for framerate and plan for the multiplayer to run at a smooth 60fps.

Uncharted 4 will also be having a multiplayer beta that can be accessed by buying Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. The Beta will run from December 4th to December 13th, 2015 with the full version of Uncharted 4: A Theif’s End set for release on March 18, 2016.
