‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Easily Repeats at Box Office

Debuts: 'The Watch' at 3rd and 'Step Up Revolution' at 4th

July 29, 2012 by

After debuting last weekend to the highest ever 2D opening at the domestic box office despite a nearly three-hour running time and the Colorado theater tragedy, The Dark Knight Rises easily repeated as the champ this weekend over newcomers The Watch and Step Up Revolution, both of which underperformed and couldn’t even match Ice Age: Continental Drift‘s runner-up hold in its third weekend out. Our choice for the most anticipated movie of the year, The Dark Knight Rises‘ 10-day total of $289 million currently trails The Avengers by nearly $100 million and The Dark Knight by almost $25 million at the same points in their runs. The Amazing Spider-Man and Brave both dropped out of the top five, while Ted managed to stay in to round it out as it nears the $200 million mark. You can check out the top five below via BOM:

  1. The Dark Knight Rises — Weekend Gross: $64.1 million — Total Gross: $289.1 million (#1 last week)
  2. Ice Age: Continental Drift — Weekend Gross: $13.3 million — Total Gross: $114.8 million (#2 last week)
  3. The Watch — Weekend Gross: $13 million — Total Gross: $13 million (new)
  4. Step Up Revolution — Weekend Gross: $10.0 million — Total Gross: $180.4 million (new)
