With the Resident Evil series seriously lagging behind the Dead Space series for years, Capcom has finally begun improving upon their dated survival-horror franchise after its disappointing debut on current-gen systems. We just saw a new take on series that focused more on multiplayer action and in doing so, receive very mixed reviews and upset a lot of hardcore fans. Capcom’s next return to Raccoon City will again use a faster pace but continue telling the zombie apocalypse story globally from the perspective of everyone’s favorite characters.
Although Resident Evil 6 still doesn’t look as good as EA and Visceral’s recently announced Dead Space 3 (or 2 or 1 for that matter), it’s still a step in the right direction. We can confirm from our time checking out the game on the E3 showroom floor that certain features such as character movement speed and inventory management have been updated for the better. But balancing a quicker pace with the survival-horror genre is a feat in itself that Capcom doesn’t seem to know how to perfect yet like Visceral, and RE6‘s story could still turn out being a little too action-based with far-too-obvious QTEs and not heavy enough on the scares to satisfy fans of the franchise.
Resident Evil 6 is set for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation, and PC on October 2, 2012. Check out the latest action-packed gameplay demo from Microsoft’s E3 2012 media briefing and the game’s official E3 trailer below.
