If you needed any more proof that Hollywood has run out of ideas, here’s the latest synopsis for the upcoming Hugh Jackman film via YouTube: “Real Steel” is an action drama about a former boxer (Hugh Jackman) who, against all odds, gets one last shot at a comeback when he teams up with his estranged son (Dakota Goyo) to build and train the perfect contender for the new high-tech sport of robot boxing.
Basically, it’s Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots the movie with a plot lifted from an old Twilight Zone episode called “Steel“. My expectations for the film were set pretty low after hearing the premise of the film being based on boxing robots in the near future, but the full-length trailer doesn’t look as bad as I imagined. With a budget of $80 million, at least they got the robot special effects looking pretty good. Check out the full-length trailer below for Real Steel which is set to hit theaters October 7, 2011.
