It’s been a big week for the Resident Evil franchise. We saw the first official announcement for the upcoming Resident Evil 6 game yesterday, and now we have the first official trailer for the next big screen adaptation in the Resident Evil film series. Like the gaming series, which is bringing back fan favorites Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, Milla Jovovich will be reprising her role as Alice and even Michelle Rodriguez will be returning in the fifth Resident Evil film. (Wow, really? We’re already at five?)
Retribution‘s trailer (which you can watch below) starts off with some pretty heavy Sony product placement and is filled even heavier with questionable CGI. But I gotta admit that I liked the setup from the start albeit a little cheesy and Zombieland-ish. From the looks of the trailer the movie should at least be entertaining… Then again, like the product placement I could have just subliminally liked it due to The Who and Daft Punk’s Tron Legacy score being stolen and used in the background.
With three brand new games and a movie, it’s a great year to be a Resident Evil fan. That is, unless you hate everything they’ve done with the series since Resident Evil 4… then this year is like all the rest and they’re just burying your beloved franchise even deeper. Damn you, Capcom and Sony!
