Yesterday, a mysterious 8 minute teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat randomly appeared on YouTube from user MortalKombatRebirth. The video had no description and no explanation of what it was for, resulting in much speculation if the trailer was for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 9 video game or a Mortal Kombat movie reboot. Those speculations can now be laid to rest as Jeri Ryan who plays Sonya Blade in the trailer has broken her silence via twitter:
Okay, so… Mortal Kombat. It’s not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film. […] I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB’s reaction to it was. And I’m not sure how you can contact WB to push them to make it. But you guys are resourceful…! 😉
No news on who the director is or what Warner Bros. reaction to the trailer was, but after all the positive reviews and hype building from this one 8 minute teaser, WB would be stupid not to pick up the idea and reboot the series now. If you still haven’t seen the trailer, you can check it out below.
