You were expecting Modern Warfare 4? For nearly the past decade, developers Infinity Ward and Treyarch have been alternating years in pumping out annual first-person shooters for Activision’s massively popular and records-setting blockbuster franchise. With 2011′s Modern Warfare 3 introducing some new characters for a potential sequel, many gamers might have expected for Activision to pull another Madden this year. Apparently not.
Activision officially announced with a not-so-revealing teaser trailer, which you can check out below, that the next game in the franchise, entitled Call of Duty: Ghosts, will take the series in an entirely new direction. That kinda sounds familiar… as we were told similar things at E3 last year in our Black Ops II exclusive.
However, this time Activision is promising a completely new story, characters, setting, and engine. In addition, Ghosts will also take advantage of next-generation consoles, and more information and a deeper look into the new Call of Duty sub-brand will be given at Microsoft’s official announcement of its next Xbox on May 21 in a few weeks. Until then, this underwhelming Ghosts teaser is all as we have as we wonder whether this year’s Call of Duty can match up to EA’s challenger, revealed a month ago in this stunningly awesome and cinematic Battlefield 4 gameplay trailer.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is set for release on November 5, 2012, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and next-generation consoles.
