Edge of Tomorrow Trailer

Tom Cruise in Groundhog Judgment Day

December 30, 2013 by

Tom Cruise is going back to his best genre once again in the latest sci-fi thriller, Edge of Tomorrow. Based on the Japanese novelย All You Need Is Kill (which the film was first titled), Cruise’s character is forced to relive the same day of a losing futuristic war over and over again in similar fashion to the movie Groundhog Day.

I still can’t get over how goofy Cruise looks running around in that mech suit, and the special effects seem a bit iffy… but I can’t argue with the peanut butter and chocolate formula of Tom Cruise and sci-fi and will for sure be checking it out when it hits theaters on June 6, 2014.

The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loopโ€”forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
