In some well-placed strategic timing earlier this week, Activision released the latest trailer for its records-setting blockbuster franchise, Call of Duty. I caught this during the ads-bloated pre-previews of The Dark Knight Rises, which shares a writer with Black Ops II in David S. Goyer, a key selling point here along with Oscar-winning composer Trent Reznor (The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo).
The release of this trailer doesn’t just coincide with Goyer’s latest cinematic work; it also serves to remind the entertainment industry that while Christopher Nolan’s trilogy-concluding The Dark Knight Rises may break box office records this weekend, Black Ops II will be primed to do the annual tradition of besting its own media launch record when it’s released November 13, 2012, on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
In our exclusive look at the game at E3 last month, James C. Burns, the actor who plays Sergeant Frank Woods in both Black Ops games and in this trailer, assured me that Goyer’s script for Black Ops II “makes the first Black Ops look like Ms. Pac-Man.” Be sure to check out extended campaign footage and the announcement trailer for more videos as well, and take a look at the new trailer and its official description below:
