Transformers 3 Tames Zookeeper and Bosses at Box Office

July 10, 2011 by

It’s been a while since a movie has held the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office for consecutive weeks this year, but leave it to Michael Bay’s action and special-effects extravaganza to buck the trend. Surpassing The Hangover: Part II as the top-grossing film of 2011, Transformers: Dark of the Moon remained at the top of the box office in its second weekend. Supported by some of the best reviews for a comedy since Bridesmaids, newcomer Horrible Bosses became the latest R-rated comedy to open strongly, following in the footsteps of Bad Teacher, which also held impressively in its third weekend.

Here were the top 5 in the domestic box office last weekend via BOM:

  1. Transformers: Dark of the Moon — Weekend Gross: $47 million — Total Gross: $261 million (#1 last week)
  2. Horrible Bosses — Weekend Gross: $28.1 million — Total Gross: $28.1 million (new)
  3. Zookeeper — Weekend Gross: $21 million — Total Gross: $21 million (new)
  4. Cars 2 — Weekend Gross: $15.2 million — Total Gross: $148.8 million (#2 last week)
  5. Bad Teacher — Weekend Gross: $9 million — Total Gross: $78.8 million (#3 last week)
