The extra scene shows an imprisoned Curt Conners who is visited by a mysterious man. A brief exchange of dialogue ensues, and Curt warns him to leave Peter Parker alone. The man, hidden in the shadows, is believed to be Norman Osborn and tells Conners to tell Parker about his father.

Update: Ain’t It Cool spoke to Rhys Ifans, who plays Dr. Connors in the film, and he said that the mystery character is not Norman Osborn. “A representative from OsCorp appears miraculously in the room,” he tells the site. “How he gets in there and how he leaves, we don’t know. Maybe we will find out. But it’s not Norman Osborn. … But it is someone who is in the employ of Norman Osborn without question.” The site followed up by asking, “[It's] someone we’re familiar with, who we don’t know is employed by Osborn?” And Ifans replied, “Yeah.”

    I agree! Personally I think they might not go to the Green Goblin route because of the previous movie. I myself think it may be The Kingpin Fisk. That’s just me though. Guess we will find out in 2 years.

    I’m 90% sure its osborn.
    Vulture would be different, like bald and kinda fragile looking.
    Kingpin is a daredevil villian.
    I’m not sure about tombstone or mysterio but I doubt that was either of them.
    I think they’ll eventually use green goblin but hopefully not the ultimate version because he would be too similar to the lizard. I think if they used gobby he would look like he does in the comics with a green and purple costume. I hope he mutates into the goblin instead of just putting a mask on.

        Just to clear things up, based off the original comics green goblin kills Gwen Stacy her neck snaps when Peter tries to save her so the green goblin has to be in the story at one point, also him being in the first movie doesn’t matter this is a different back story and the original spider man

        notice the long shaggy hair of the shadowy figure during a brief close-up of the back of his head and osborn always had short hair. also notice how the figure arrives and leaves during the lightning, suggesting he is electro. also electro has a history of going into a prison called the Raft in the comics, which is a prison for sycopaths and is in new york. thats just too much clues pointing towards electro

Just say the movie, and I noticed the emphasized on the lightning strikes. The shadowy figure seemed to come and go with the lightning. Wasn’t there a older spider villain called “shocker” just a thought

  hahah Shocker was a low time villian in it for the money there is not chance they will give someone that powerful of a role to such a small time villian, my guessed its either the alter ego of norman osporn, or they are trying to tie this into the avengers. Either way it is such a big question mark to the side of the face

  Shocker’s powers were more akin to vibrating air particles to make shockwaves and such. Who I think is more likely (and possibly who you were thinking of) is Electro, who manipulates electricity. Call me crazy but when you get his origin story in Amazing Spiderman #9 the uncostumed him does look a bit like the actor who played the man in the mid-credit scene. Electro was always ruled by the almighty dollar, he could be on Norman Osborn’s payroll in this universe.

There was emphasis placed on the fact he was also a cross-species geneticist, highly suggesting it could be Michael Morbius, or Jackal.

I would say either Osborn or perhaps even the rather obscure, but extremely powerful and resourceful, Gustav Fiers, The Gentleman, whose background very much involves Parker’s parents. Mysterio, Vulture, and Electro start off as very petty criminals, so I wouldn’t expect much involvement from them in the secrets behind what may be Spiderman’s existence.

It appears to me that it was Osborn himself. They may do something based off his “Noir” version. Maybe they believe he is dying due to mutation into the Goblin. It could be Electro (since the lightning strikes seemed to matter). However, Electro aka Max Dillon would be Peter’s age or slightly older if they are staying consistent.

I’ve gone through all my knowledge of spiderman villains and I can’t think of any that would dress like that bar perhaps someone who works for kingpin, which is unlikely, or perhaps Chameleon. He always was a sharp dresser and getting in and out a prison undetected would be easy for him. Plus I kinda like the idea of the lizard and the Chameleon being contacts.

  If that characters is the Chameleon, which makes the most sense, it would be awesome because of the following.
  
  First two things: (1) I believe that the Chameleon was trained by the Red Skull in the comic books, and (2) in the 90′s cartoon The Chameleon sets free the Red Skull, Electro, and Captain America from a vortex that is holding them prisoner.
  
  Now this could set up a couple of things: (1) A Marvel/Disney and Sony trade or Cap/Shield into the Spider-man movies and a Spider-man set up into the Avengers 2. Seems like Sony would win big with this trade and having Spider-man in the Avengers couldn’t possible push that box office higher with is what studios really care in the end.

This movie refers to a complete other universe. in that version peters parents were secret agents that worked for the FBI and in this one they say how Peters dad works at Oscorp with Conners. This is a totally different universe and is not relevant to the series we watched in the 90′s

It’s Osborn. He’s the one that throws Gwen off the bridge in which spiderman shoots a web to save her and it breaks her neck….

There’s really no way to know who it is because the entire movie is a retelling of the Spider-Man story. Can speculate that they’ll try to stay away from the villains of the previous trilogy.

  I like the idea of the Cameleon, working for Osborne and had been for some time. Perfect little spy and easy to infiltrate the prision to question Connors. Movie 2 will be a Kraven/Spider fight. Osborne watching the whole time, ‘observing’ the Spider. All the while taking an updated version of the serum, getting stronger and more insane. Movie 3: Goblin (bye, bye Gwen)

  it cant be the other personality for a number of reasons
  1 there were two arms
  2 in interviews no one will say who the figure is, and they wouldn’t be all secretive if it was meant to be his other personality becuse its no big deal
  3 the figure arrived and left during lightning which suggests he is electro
  4 electro has a history of of going into a prison for sycopaths called the Raft which is in NEW YORK so that cud be the prison in movie which also suggests electro
  5 mysterio can teleport
  6 chameleon cud easily get past gards with a different face

Ugh, these comic book movies are all trying way too hard to duplicate the success of The Avengers. Nobody wants to see a post-credits sting about the Sinister Six, just like nobody cared that Sinestro’s costume turned yellow at the end of Green Lantern. Dear producers, please stop being lazy hacks and focus on actually telling a good story every once in a while. The only thing you accomplish by trying to repeatedly clone The Avengers is ruining The Avengers.

  I totally agree. Though The Avengers never created the stinger, they just made it really popular. Most stingers are really hokey and stupid. Like Green Lantern, Iron Man 2, etc.
  
  The best stingers I’ve ever seen that leave on a beautiful scene or such is Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End (that should have been the final shot of the whole series), The Avengers, and Fast Five.
  
  Most others just leave on a note like they’re trying too hard to be a badass. The Amazing Spider-Man for example was just unnecessary. The movie ended beautifully and then you have this crappy useless scene. We know the story will continue, we know there will be more “villains”. That cell scene was just stupid in trying to act like, “Yea, nerds are going to be all over this.”

I’m gonna spoil something for you… In the Amazing Spider-Man game, which I belive is canon, takes place right after the movie, and SPOILERS – - – Peter breaks out connors to help make a new antidote to a virus that was created as an aftermath of connors’s work at ocsorp bu allistaire smithe… The character in the shadoews might have been Smithe, or it could have been Osborn himself…. Likely though, the next movie will take place during the events following the game, as if it never happened? or may they touch on it…. Who knows… Still unsure if the game is canon, though the creators of the game BEENOX worked with the writers of the movie, so who knows…

i think it would be norman osborn because there was a scene wherein peter sneak into the oscorp building and there was a hologram about the oscorp owned by osborn. and his face is in shadows. you can only see the outline of his face and the glasses. and the fact that richard parker is employed in oscorp, maybe norman osborn has something to do with his death.

REally hard to tell. I do like the idea of the Cameleon. Just enough of a sneak to work for Osborne and would set up a great Kraven (they are relatives) battle for movie 2. I figure the Goblin won’t show up until movie 3 after he has observed Spiderman a bit more.

To me It sounded almost exactly like and had a similar size to Martin Sheen’s character Uncle Ben…there was never a funeral scene for him in the film. just my opinion.

Dr. Strange and Antman are known to be in a new movie(s). It could just have been Dr. Strange in that jail cell. Everyone has to remember that Spiderman is a back up Avenger in the event of death of the originals.
