Sony Reveals a First-Look at Death Stranding’s Gameplay at E3 2018

With Almost 10 Minutes of New Footage, We Still Have No Idea What's Going On

June 18, 2018 by

After skipping last yearโ€™s E3, Death Stranding made its big return at this yearโ€™s 2018 PlayStation Showcase with a first look at almost 10-minutes of beautifully weird gameplay.

The latest new IP from Hideo Kojima has been at the top of most PlayStation 4 ownersโ€™ wish lists after his messy breakup with Konami during the launch of Metal Gear Solid V and the heart-breaking cancellation of P.T. aka Silent Hills.

Thankfully, Sony scooped up the original Silent Hills team of Kojima, Norman Reedus, and Guillermo del Toro who are now closer than ever to finally releasing a game together.

But as is the case with most Kojima games and trailers, the 8 minutes of surreal gameplay shown at Sonyโ€™s Showcase has left us with even more questions than answers. Based on this first look at gameplay, it looks like players will take control of Reedusโ€™ character, Sam Bridges, who is some sort of futuristic delivery man in a world where newborn children are scarce and some sort of invisible alien entities are hunting down humans.

Other sources have claimed that the fetus Reedusโ€™ character is carrying is actually a clone of himself and that the babies will be used as some sort of unique respawning mechanic in the gameโ€ฆ then again, Kojima might even be asking himself WTF is going on at this point.

Either way, we canโ€™t wait to get our hands on the game that will hopefully launch sometime in 2019. Hopefully, before then we’ll get some more details on the story and Mads Mikkelsen’s character that will help explain things a little better.
