Titanfall at Gamescom 2013

New Gameplay Trailer Shows Off Attrition Mode

August 21, 2013 by

If there’s one thing that the Xbox One has going for it right now, this is it. What we saw at E3 was amazing and this recent gameplay trailer only cements that Titanfall is going to be the Xbox One’s first gem.

As you’ll see in the gameplay below, Titanfall is a lot like previous games that its developers have worked on such as Medal of Honor and Call of Duty, except with the twist of being set in the future where players all have jetpacks with the ability to flawlessly wall-run and call in giant fast-paced mechs.

Two important things you’ll notice from the trailer:

  1. The gameplay in Attrition mode looks to be more than just a basic survival deathmatch mode and seems like there’s some sort of minor story involving fighting over this “Barker” pilot.
  2. At the very end of the game the losing team is forced to retreat back to their dropship where they can be killed by the winning team for extra points and rewards — a nice touch that’s sure to be used in other future games too depending on how well it ends up playing out.

If anything, I’d say that Titanfall reminds me the most of the PlayStation exclusive Killzone, but considering the talent behind it, it might even wind up being the greater multiplayer experience.

What’s even better about Titanfall is that its going to be multi-platform, which is another strike against the Xbox One considering that anybody not wanting to become an early adopter has the option to get it for Xbox 360 or PC when it’s released sometime early next year. So great news for anybody still not trusting Microsoft’s next box and staying on team Sony during the start of this upcoming console war, but it will be interesting to see how much of a drop off in quality the Xbox 360 version has compared to the Xbox One.
