Microsoft Announced 3 New Gears of War Games at E3 2018

Gears Pop!, Gears Tactics, and Gears 5 All Coming in 2019

At this yearโ€™s Xbox Media Briefing, to the surprise of many, Microsoft revealed not one, but three new Gears of Wars games.

First showing off a new โ€˜Gears Pop!โ€™ mobile game that will feature toy versions of the characters in Funko form, Microsoft and The Coalition had hardcore Gears fans worried that they wouldnโ€™t be getting a new triple-A title in the series any time soon.

Studio head of The Coalition, Rod Ferguson, followed up with another first look at another new Gears of War game called ‘Gears Tactics.’ While Tactics is targeting a more serious turn-based demographic similar to the XCOM series, it too had Gears fans sweating who were hoping for a follow-up to Gears of War 4.

But in their last big reveal, Gears 5 was officially announced. Dropping the โ€œof Warโ€ and taking place after the events of Gears of War 4, the fifth entry in the series will be the first with a playable female lead, Kait Diaz, returning from the last game.

The first look at Gears 5ย gameplay was heavy on the talking and light on action, but to the relief of hardcore Gears fans made sure to acknowledge that Marcus Fenix and his now-much-older-looking son, James Fenix, will also be returning on the squadโ€™s latest adventure.

Gears 5 is set for launch in 2019 on Xbox One and PC.
