During the Credits

After a quick “The Guardians of the Galaxy will return” message, there is an extra scene showing the fate of one of the characters during the very start of the credits of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Spoiler
The extra scene shows the new baby Groot dancing in his pot in the foreground; Drax cleans his blade in the background. After a while, Drax turns his head to look suspiciously at Groot, but Groot stops dancing and remains completely still. When Drax diverts his attention back to cleaning his blade, Groot resumes dancing to “I Want You Back”. The scene lasts a little under a minute.

After the Credits

Like other Marvel Phase 2 films, there is a Guardians of the Galaxy-related stinger after the credits of the film.

Spoiler

After the credits of Guardians of the Galaxy, there is a short scene back at Knowhere with The Collector sitting in his destroyed base. Cosmo, a dog that was formerly a part of his collection, comes up to The Collector and licks his face. A voice offscreen remarks, “Why do you let him lick you like that?” The camera turns to reveal Howard the Duck (Seth Green), who says, “Gross.” Howard, also a former part of the collection, is sitting outside his broken display case on top of Adam Warlock’s cocoon. Director James Gunn has confirmed that Adam Warlock is a pivotal character in a future Marvel movie.
