G.I. Joe: Retaliation Trailer

A New Look for Cobra Commander

December 14, 2011 by

Trading director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, Van Helsing) for Jon M. Chu (Step Up 3D, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) sounds like a step down for the upcoming action-based G.I. Joe sequel. But trading Marlon Wayans and Dennis Quaid for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Bruce Willis is a massive upgrade that makes G.I. Joe: Retaliation look way better than 2009’s average action flick. And while noย Joseph Gordon Levy is a bummer, his Cobra Commander look in the first film was stupid, and thankfully they’ve gone back to the original Cobra design, which you can see in the trailer.

The change of directors might seem like a downgrade at first, but Chu’s style of shooting hectic dance sequences in the Step Up series looks to transition well to the high-octane action genre. Plus, any film that has The Rock shooting guns and kicking ass instead of floating around with wings in a pink tutu gets my vote of approval. Check out the first teaser trailer below for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which is set for release June 29, 2012.
