Dead Rising 2: Off the Record Trailer

Frank West Returns in the Sequel's DLC

April 12, 2011 by

One of the biggest complaints by fans of the original Dead Rising about the sequel was that their beloved protagonist Frank West was no where to be found. Instead, Dead Rising 2 featured a new hero by the name of Chuck Greene who Capcom felt had more personality and would help tell a better story. While fans accepted Greene as the new star of the franchise, they still wanted Frank West back, or at least some information about his whereabouts. Capcom answered fan’s demands with the release of Dead Rising 2‘s second DLC “Case: West” which allowed Greene and West to team up and take on the outskirts of Fortune City.

Now, six months after the release of the DR2, Capcom is releasing more Dead Rising content called “Dead Rising 2: Off the Record” which will only feature Frank West. Off the Record won’t be a true sequel, but more of a re-imaging of the events of the second game with West replacing Greene as the main character and answering the question — What would Frank do? DR2: OtR will feature reworked cutscenes, missions, and gameplay mechanics with West instead of Greene and bring back old gameplay mechanics like the ability to take pictures.

While this all seems like a simple DLC pack, it sounds like Capcom is planning on releasing this as a standalone game on its own disc that will be required even if you have the original Dead Rising 2 disc, similar to how they release updated full versions of Street Fighter repackaged as Super Street Fighter at around $30.
